Several angles separated by commas (e.g. 15, 18) give one column each: Fajr15, Fajr18… · Asr is always shown twice, 1× (Shafi‘i, Maliki, Hanbali) and 2× (Hanafi).

Chasht is a quarter of the way from Fajr, or from sunrise, to sunset. Choosing a calculation method fills in that method's Fajr angle above; you may change it freely.

MinaretPlus for Windows

The desktop version of MinaretPlus for Windows: prayer times, moon sighting, the Qibla direction and the Hijri calendar on your own computer, with no internet connection needed. It comes in two editions — the same program, with identical features and identical performance; only the way each one reaches your computer is different. Choose whichever suits you.

Portable (ZIP)

No installation — download the zip, extract it into a folder, and run MinaretPlus.exe.

  • Nothing to install, and no administrator password is needed; it can even run from a USB stick.
  • Runs on old and new computers and laptops alike, including Windows 7 and 8.
  • Keep all the files of the extracted folder safe and together — the program needs them beside it, so if they are moved or deleted it will not run. It also does not appear in Windows search or in the apps list.

Windows Setup

One file, installed once like any regular Windows program.

  • After installing, open it from the Windows search bar or the Start menu — no searching through folders in File Manager.
  • It is listed in Settings → Apps, and uninstalls cleanly from there.
  • It sets up everything the program needs by itself.
  • Needs Windows 10 or later, and asks for the administrator password while installing.

  • Settings → Apps

About this program

MinaretPlus computes the Islamic prayer hours, the direction of the Qibla and converts between the Hijri and Gregorian calendars. This is a web version of the Windows program Minaret by Kamal Abdali (1987–1998); the calculations follow the original Visual Basic source.

Times shown

  • Fajr – dawn: sun is below the horizon by the chosen angle (or fixed minutes before sunrise). In Options you may enter several angles (say 15 and 18); the tables then show Fajr15 and Fajr18 columns. The same works for Isha.
  • Shuruq – sunrise (sun's centre 0.83° below the horizon).
  • Ishraq – begins when the sun has risen 1.4° above the horizon after sunrise (adjustable in Options).
  • Chasht – a quarter of the way from Fajr to sunset; in Options you may instead take a quarter of the way from sunrise to sunset, and choose the Fajr angle Chasht starts from.
  • Zuhr – solar noon.
  • Asr 1× and Asr 2× – afternoon: the shadow equals once (Shafi‘i, Maliki, Hanbali) or twice (Hanafi) the object's length, plus the noon shadow. Both are always shown.
  • Asr Makruh – begins when the sun is still 2.3° above the horizon before sunset, and lasts till Maghrib (adjustable).
  • Maghrib – sunset (a few methods use the sun's angle below the horizon instead). Isha – night: sun below the horizon by the chosen angle, or fixed minutes after Maghrib (some methods use more minutes in Ramadan).
  • Calculation method – Options lists the conventions used in various countries and institutions; choose Custom to set every angle and interval yourself.

A * means that the event does not occur on that day at that latitude. Year 0 gives a perpetual schedule (for each date the average of the times of the next 28 years, counting from the current year; Feb 29 is averaged over the leap years among them). Dates 1901–2200 A.D. are supported.

Hijri dates

Hijri months are computed by the MoonCalc engine: for each month the crescent's visibility is evaluated at sunset at your location under the criterion chosen in the Moon tab (default Yallop), and the month begins on the first evening the criterion is met. In prayer timetables the Hijri date follows the Gregorian date (midnight to midnight). Actual local moon-sighting announcements can differ by a day.

The Moon tab

The Moon tab shows the MoonCalc engine's sky at any moment (live, a chosen time, sunset, the Yallop best time, or the moment the Sun reaches −5°), a moon close-up with the crescent prediction at sunset, moon phases, apsides and eclipses, and the year's Hijri month starts under the chosen criterion — there a month's 1st day is the day that ends at sunset on the date shown.
